Bruce Springsteen ist sicherlich kein Neuling in Sachen akustischer, folkinspirierter Musik. Daher ist es keine Überraschung, dass er 2006 mit WE SHALL OVERCOME: THE SEEGER SESSIONS ein Tributalbum an die Folk-Ikone Pete Seeger herausbrachte.
Das Album feiert nicht nur Seegers musikalischen Einfluss, sondern auch die politischen Positionen, die der Sänger vertrat, was offensichtlich bei dem bekanntermaßen progressiven Springsteen Anklang findet. Und obwohl die E Street Band abwesend sein mag, widmet sich Bruce Seegers Melodien im klassischen, überlebensgroßen Boss-Stil, mit einer riesigen Band, die mehrere Streicher, eine Bläsersektion, ein Akkordeon und mehr umfasst.
Indem Bruce alles von Dixieland bis Zydeco in die Folk / Blues-Vorlage einarbeitet, rührt er einen wilden Hexenkessel der Americana auf, der von ebenso viel purer menschlicher Leidenschaft wie sozialer Bedeutung wimmelt. Dieses Programm zeigt den Boss bei der Aufführung vieler Albumtitel in einem Livekonzert, das während eines dreitägigen Auftritts im November 2006 im Dubliner The Point aufgezeichnet wurde.
