Beständig gute Alben liefern Belle And Sebastian seit 1996 ab. Damals trafen sich der arbeitslose Sänger und Songwriter Stuart Murdoch und der Bassist Stuart David in einem staatlich geförderten Musikkurs und begannen, gemeinsam zu komponieren. Schnell gesellten sich weitere Freunde dazu, bald entlieh man einem Kinderbuch den Bandnamen und residiert seitdem im Olymp des Indie-Pop. Dass diese Band mehr ist als die Summe ihrer Teile, bemerkte man spätestens, als die Sängerin und Cellistin Isobel Campbell 2002 die Band verließ, um fortan u. a. mit Mark Lanegan Platten zu veröffentlichen. Die Post-Isobel-Alben "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" (2003) und "The Life Pursuit" (2006) werden zu den erfolgreichsten in der bisherigen B&B-Bandhistorie. Nach einer vierjährigen Pause melden sich die Schotten zurück. "Write About Love" ist dabei nicht nur Albumtitel, sondern Programm, alle Songs handeln vom wohl wichtigsten Thema des Lebens. Eines der Highlights ihres achten Studioalbums ist dabei sicher das Duett mit der amerikanischen Jazz-Soul-Sängerin Norah Jones. (indigo. de)

It is, of course, our third album for Rough Trade and was recorded in April and May at Sound Factory Studio B. Stuart wrote the majority of the songs and one (Sunday's Pretty Icons) with Mick; Sarah wrote and takes lead vocal on I Didn't See It Coming and I Can See Your Future; Stevie wrote and sings I'm Not Living In The Real World. The are also some guests - as well as the aforementioned Carey Mulligan, Norah Jones duets with Stuart on Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John and some orchestration is added by members of LA's The Section Quartet. This is the first belle and sebastian album since 'the life pursuit' back in 2006. adopting a more fluid approach than on the previous record, fourteen songs were recorded and mixed by the start of june, of which eleven feature on the cd and vinyl releases.
as ever, the record draws the band's internal songwriting strengths, but this time includes some guest performances. stuart murdoch wrote the majority of the songs on the album, while sarah martin takes lead vocals on her two contributions, 'i didn't see it coming' and 'i can see your future' and stevie jackson on his ('im not living in the real world'). in addition, norah jones contributes lead vocals to 'little lou, ugly jack, prophet john' (which also appears on her forthcoming album of duets and collaborations called 'featuring') and actress carey mulligan sings on 'write about love'. strings were added by la residents the section quartet. "Bandleader Stuart Murdoch, beeinflusst von der Northern-Soul-Bewegung aus Großbritannien, schreibt auf dem neuen Album einmal mehr wunderschöne Melodien. Seine Band setzt das gekonnt um. Produziert wurde die CD einmal mehr in Los Angeles. Songtitel wie "I want the world to stop" lassen Melancholie vermuten, aber "Write About Love" lässt im Gegenteil noch einmal den Sommer im Herbst erklingen.
