Pam Grier spielt Sheba Shayne, eine Privatdetektivin aus Chicago, die in ihre Heimatstadt gerufen wird, um den örtlichen Mafiaboss davon abzuhalten, sich in das Kreditgeschäft ihres Vaters einzumischen. Mit der Hilfe des Partners ihres Vaters, Brick, findet Sheba schnell heraus, dass die gewalttätigen Schläger nicht kampflos aufgeben werden. Autobomben, Schießereien und Verfolgungsjagden auf dem Wasser sind die Folge, während Sheba, die mit ihren Reizen, ihrer Cleverness und einer 44er-Kaliber-Waffe ausgestattet ist, auf ein Blutbad zusteuert!

Nach ihren legendären Rollen in »Coffy« und »Foxy Brown« kehrte Pam Grier in William Girdlers Kultfilm »Sheba, Baby« zum reinen Blaxploitation-Genre zurück. Die Los Angeles Times bezeichnete Grier als »cool, tough and glamorous - a female fantasy Wonder Woman« und festigte damit ihren Status als erster weiblicher Actionstar.
