Drei Monate vor seinem tragischen Tod nahm Chet Baker 1988 im Quartett (zusammen mit Philip Catherine, Egil Kapstad und Terje Venaas) dieses Album im Studio Sysmo, Paris (Februar 17 & 18, 1988) unter der Regie von Produzent Jon Larsen auf.
Die Aufnahmen wurden in den 90ern vorerst nur in Norwegen auf Vinyl veröffentlicht, 2024 endlich erscheint »Late Night Jazz« (u. a. auch mit gesungener Performance von Chet Baker auf »How High The Moon«) auch auf CD und LP außerhalb Skandinaviens. Inklusive eines 28-seitigen Booklets mit zuvor unveröffentlichtem Bildmaterial und 3 zusätzlichen Alternativ-Tracks.
