Die Gruppe, die auf The Cannonball Adderley Quintet at the Lighthouse zu hören ist, bestand aus Cannonballs Bruder Nat Adderley am Kornett und dem Pianisten Victor Feldman. At the Lighthouse war Cannonballs zweites "Live"-Album (aufgenommen in einem Club vor einem Publikum, aber mit professionellem Equipment mit der Absicht, ein Album zu produzieren, im Gegensatz zu privaten oder im Radio übertragenen Live-Aufnahmen). Cannonballs erstes sehr erfolgreiches Live-Album war The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Francisco, das die erste gemeinsame Aufnahme von Adderley und Bobby Timmons markierte. Trotz des Titels war die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Cannonball und Coltrane 1959, The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago, ein Studioalbum.
