Building on the Plainville debut that earned “Top 10″ spots in the Village Voice, Chicago Reader, Boston Pheonix, Jazzman (France), and National Public Radio’s A Blog Supreme, Jeremy Udden’s Plainville is a brand new installment on Sunnyside. It’s amazing when a band comes along that sounds at once familiar and totally unique. Saxophonist Jeremy Udden has put together a group that blends the sounds of traditional folk, roots and country with modern jazz. He calls it Plainville (after his hometown in Massachusetts). Plainville is actually an alt-country / folk band in disguise as a jazz combo. This comes across plainly on their new Sunnyside release entitled If the Past Seems So Bright.
The band is an assembly of some of New York’s finest creative musicians; including banjoist / guitarist Brandon Seabrook, keyboard / slide guitar player Pete Rende, bassist Eivind Opsvik and drummer RJ Miller. The recording also features special guest appearance by vocalists Nathan Blehar and Justin Keller.
Musicians:
Jeremy Udden - alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, clarinet
Pete Rende - Fender Rhodes, pump organ, prophet, wurlitzer
Brandon Seabrook - banjo, guitar, 12-string guitar
Eivin Opsvik - acoustic bass
R. J. Miller - drums
Nathan Blehar - nylon-string guitar, vocals, guitar
Will Graefe - steel-string accoustic guitar
Justin Keller - vocals
