Der bedeutendste Aspekt dieses Albums, das zuerst als Chet - »The Lyrical Trompet Of Chet Baker« erschien, ist die Interaktion zwischen Chet Baker und Bill Evans, zwei mehrjährigen Jazzstars, die nur selten zusammen aufgenommen hatten. Zum Zeitpunkt der Entstehung dieses Albums war Chet sowohl für seinen Gesang als auch für sein Trompetenspiel bekannt. Diese LP ist jedoch vollständig instrumental und besteht aus neun Balladen, die in den Stilen von Hard Bop bis Cool Jazz vorgetragen werden.
Die Rhythmusgruppe von Bill Evans, Paul Chambers und Philly Joe Jones arbeitete zu dieser Zeit in der Stammgruppe von Miles Davis.
