John Lennon und Paul McCartney zählen zu den größten Komponisten des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts. Kein Wunder, dass sich auch Blue-Note-Künstler an die unwiderstehlichen Kompositionen machten, nachdem die Fab Four ab 1964 auch Amerika eroberten. Souljazz-Tenorsaxophonist Stanley Turrentine lud „Can’t Buy Me Love“ mit einem Maximum von Soul auf, und Lee Morgan versorgte „Yesterday“ mit einer guten Portion Hardbop-Drive . Buddy Richs Las-Vegas-Orchester hatten zumeist ohnehin immer mehrere Beatles-Klassiker in ihrem Repertoire — „Norwegian Wood“ ist eine seiner überzeugendsten Interpretationen. Bis heute haben die Beatles-Songs nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren, wie die Coverversionen von Kevin Hays („And I Love Her“), Bobby McFerrin („Drive My Car“) und Dianne Reeves & Cassandra Wilson („Come Together“) beweisen. Fazit: „Blue Note Plays The Beatles“ enthält sicher eine Vielzahl der besten Jazzinterpretationen von Beatles-Songs, die überhaupt erhältlich sind.
