Es ist schon bemerkenswert, dass die beiden am festesten im internationalen Repertoire verankerten skandinavischen Streichquartette von Komponisten stammen, die nun gerade nicht durch ihr kammermusikalisches Schaffen berühmt wurden.

Dies gilt sowohl für Grieg (das Quartett op. 27 war das einzige, das überhaupt zu seinen Lebzeiten veröffentlicht wurde), wie auch für das 30 Jahre später veröffentlichte Werk von Sibelius. Auffällig bei Grieg ist die Arbeit am Klang mit geradezu orchestralen Effekten, während bei Sibelius der transparente Austausch zwischen den Stimmen im Vordergrund steht.

Ergänzt wird das Programm durch »Felix remix« des Norwegers Olav Anton Thommessen, das sich auf den 2. Satz aus Mendelssohns Streichquartett op. 44, 2 bezieht.
