Lee Morgans enormer kreativer Output in den Jahren nach dem durchschlagenden Erfolg von »The Sidewinder« war in jeder Hinsicht atemberaubend - sei es in Bezug auf Qualität oder Quantität. Tatsächlich nahm der Trompeter zwischen 1964 und 1968 15 Alben für Blue Note auf, von denen viele zunächst im Archiv landeten. So auch »The Procrastinator«. Das Album, das Morgan 1967 mit einer absoluten Traumbesetzung eingespielt hatte, erschien erst 1978 und gilt rückblickend als eine seiner monumentalen Leistungen der späten 60er Jahre.
