Als Bobby Hutcherson 1968 »Total Eclipse« für Blue Note einspielte, zählte er bereits zu den Stil-Ikonen des Labels. Das Album dokumentierte die erste Aufnahme des Vibraphonisten mit dem Tenorsaxofonisten und Flötisten Harold Land, dessen runder, hallreicher Ton reizvoll mit dem coolen, intellektuellen Post-Bop kontrastierte, den Hutchersons Quintett hier spielte.
