Im Vergleich zur Violine, dem Cello oder dem Fagott sind nur eine Handvoll von Concerti aus Antonio Vivaldis Hand für die Blockflöte vorhanden. Und doch stellen gerade sie für jeden Blockflötisten nach wie vor – zumindest in technischer Hinsicht – die größte Herausforderung innerhalb des barocken Repertoires dar. Vivaldi war, wie man weiß, ein exzeptioneller Geiger, der die Spieltechnik und Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten seines Instruments in innovativer Manier an bis dato unbekannte Grenzen verschob. Schrieb er für andere Instrumente, so richtete er sich entweder nach ihm bekannten technischen Grenzen, oder er übertrug sein auf die Violine bezogenes Idiom, das von einem riesigen Tonumfang und dem Vorhandensein von vier Saiten geprägt war, auf diese Instrumente, ungeachtet, ob es dafür in deren Repertoire Vorbilder gab. Technisch also aberwitzig virtuos, musikalisch höchst abwechslungsreich: Michael Schneider, der im Moment wohl beste deutsche Blockflötist, legt hiermit nach vielen Jahren seine zweite Meisterinterpretation dieser zauberhaften Werkgruppe vor.

Unlike the violin (Cello), or bassoon, the recorder is featured in only a handful of concertos by Antonio Vivaldi. And yet they continue – at least in the category of technique – to represent the greatest challenge in the baroque repertoire for each and every recorder player. As we know, Vivaldi was an exceptional violinist who in an innovative manner took the playing technique and expressive power of his instrument to previously unknown limits. When he wrote for other instruments, he either observed the technical limits known to him or transferred them to his made-for-the-violin idiom, a language marked by a gigantic tonal gamut and the presence of four strings – whether or not there were models for this in their respective repertoires. The result is a Concerto repertoire that is madly virtuosic in technique and musically of the greatest variety. Michael Schneider, certainly today's best German recorder player, presents after many years his second master's interpretation of this fascinating group of works.
