Dass Felix Mendelssohns Schwester Fanny eine hoch talentierte Musikerin war, ist bekannt. Weniger bekannt sind zwei andere Geschwister der beiden: Rebecka, eine begabte Sängerin und Paul, der ein sehr kompetenter Amateurcellist war (seine Brötchen verdiente er in einer Bank). Ihm sind wohl die meisten Cellowerke aus Felix' Feder zu verdanken. Für deren Einspielung benutzt Brautigam denselben Pleyel-Flügel von 1830, mit dem er bereits die »Lieder ohne Worte« aufgenommen hatte. Und Poltéra hat sein Stradivari-Cello von 1711 mit Darmsaiten bezogen. So gelingt es beiden Musikern, einen zugleich beweglichen, transparenten und kräftigen Klang zu erzeugen, ideal für Mendelssohn.
