Irischer Barock
Matthew Dubourg (1703–1767), Schüler von Francesco Geminiani, gestaltete als »Master and composer of state music« in Dublin maßgeblich das Musikleben der irischen Metropole. So leitete er beispielsweise 1742 als Konzertmeister die Uraufführung von Georg Friedrich Händels Messiah. Viele seiner Kompositionen wurden erst kürzlich wiederentdeckt und zeigen einen ausgesprochen interessanten Musiker, der sich auch sehr für irische Volksweisen interessierte, die er mittels Bearbeitung »salonfähig« machte. Als künstlerischer Leiter des Irish Baroque Orchestra erstellt Peter Whelan für LINN RECORDS ein abwechslungsreiches Porträt eines bemerkenswerten irischen Barockkomponisten.
