Erneut stellen Martyn Brabbins und das BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra ihr glückliches Händchen für die Musik von William Walton (1902-1983) unter Beweis.
Für die jüngste Folge der Walton-Serie bei HYPERION haben sie das sonnig-mediterrane Violinkonzert ausgewählt, das 1939 für Jascha Heifetz entstand und besonders im mittleren »Presto capricciosa alla Napolitana« seine Affinität zum Licht und zur Atmosphäre Italiens verrät.
Die übrigen Werke zeigen Walton als gewandten Orchesterkomponisten, der den populären Tonfall ebenso beherrschte (Spitfire Prelude & Fugue und Partita) wie die kunstvolle Verarbeitung (Hindemith-Variationen).
