The Blu-Ray was developed as a high-definition successor to the DVD and offers a significantly increased data rate and storage capacity compared to its predecessor. Blu-Rays can therefore store movies with significantly better resolution and offer enormously high picture quality on corresponding screens. Blu-Ray players are usually backward compatible with DVDs, so that they can also be played.

»Vincenzo Bellinis Oper ›Norma‹ (uraufgeführt 1831 in Mailand) hatte es auf den Bühnen des 19. und der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht leicht. Die heikle Koloraturen-Partie der Titelfigur schreckte selbst gute Sopranistinnen und deshalb auch viele Intendanten davon ab, sie zur Aufführung zu bringen. Doch dann kam Maria Callas! Die in Amerika aufgewachsene Griechin sang die gefürchtete Rolle in Rom, Mailand und New York so bravourös, dass die Fachwelt aus dem Häuschen geriet. Heute ist ›Norma‹ die mit Abstand bekannteste Oper Bellinis, setzt aber eine herausragende Koloratursopranistin voraus. In der Aufnahme aus dem Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona übernimmt die US-amerikanische Opernsängerin Sondra Radvanovsky die Titelrolle. Sie erlebte ihren künstlerischen Durchbruch an der New Yorker MET und ist heute auf allen großen Opernbühnen der Welt ein gefeierter Gast.« (hr2)
