Gabriel Faurè hielt Umberto Giordanos Siberia für eines der interessantesten und einzigartigsten Werke des frühen 20. Die tragische Geschichte der Oper handelt von Stephana, der Kurtisane des Prinzen Alexis. Sie verliebt sich in den unschuldigen Soldaten Vassili, der nach Sibirien geschickt wird, weil er den Prinzen getötet hat. Stephana gibt ihr luxuriöses Leben auf, um ihm zu folgen, kann aber ihrer Vergangenheit nicht entkommen. Mit seiner intensiven russischen Atmosphäre und den leidenschaftlich aufsteigenden Melodien war Siberia Giordanos Lieblingsoper. Diese umjubelte Fiorentino-Produktion wurde mit zahlreichen Ovationen bedacht.
