Aus Anlass der Krönung von König Charles III. hat CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES die schönsten Musikstücke der Krönungen von Jakob II. (1685) und Georg II. (1727) zusammengestellt. Die Meisterwerke von Henry Purcell und Georg Friedrich Händel sind von außerordentlich suggestiver Kraft: Ihr »Grand Style« prägt das Zeremoniell der englischen Krone bis heute. So erklang Händels Zadok The Priest seit 1727 bei jeder Krönung eines britischen Monarchen. Trommelwirbel und prachtvolle Trompetenfanfaren kündigen die Akklamationen von Westminster an, wenn es wieder schallt: God Save the King!

Hervorragende Einspielung!

Ein französisches Ensemble spielt und singt englische Krönungsmusiken?! Aber ja bitte doch, und wie! Jahrelang war ich die (sehr schöne), 1982 erschienene Aufnahme der Coronation Anthems von The English Concert/Trevor Pinnock und dem Choir of Westminster Abbey/Simon Preston gewohnt. Zeit, um den Ohren was "Neues" zu gönnen. Die vorliegende Aufnahme mit dem mir bis dato unbekannten Ensemble bereitet große Freude. Prunk und Pomp, Fanfaren und eine schöne Zugabe aus "Solomon" (Praise The Lord). Die königliche Kapelle von Versailles ist der richtige Ort für die Einspielung dieser Werke von Purcell und Händel. Wunderbare Akustik mit schönem Nachhall, von den Aufnahme- und Tontechnikern perfekt eingefangen. Es wird virtuos und mit großer Freude an der Musik, fast schon "poppig" mit ordentlich Drive gespielt und gesungen. Quasi haben die Franzosen den Herren Purcell und Händel den Staub den Perücken entzogen! Erfrischend! Freilich wird über manch kleines Details "hinweg gesungen". Die Engländer singen und spielen deutlich "steifer und förmlicher", an einigen Stellen wird akzentuierter phrasiert, besonders in den Solostimmen. Trotzdem kann ich die französische Produktion uneingeschränkt empfehlen, da sie erfrischend und kurzweilig ist. Nicht zuletzt auch wegen des tollen, umfangreichen und höchst informativen Booklets mit zahlreichen Abbildungen und Erläuterungen! Ganz wunderbar!
