William Jackson of Exeter (1730-1803) - sowohl Maler und Schriftsteller als auch Komponist - war bis jetzt so etwas wie ein verborgener Schatz. Wie Timothy Roberts in seiner Einführung zu diesem ersten Album mit Jacksons Musik schreibt, »sind seine Lieder in englischen Traditionen verwurzelt, und auch wenn seine Harmonien selten über die von Corelli und Händel hinausgehen, bringt Jacksons Betonung der Sensibilität auch Anklänge an die frühe Romantik mit sich«. »Seine Melodien waren rein und natürlich«, wie ein Zeitgenosse bemerkte, was zu einer Musik führte, die sowohl elegant als auch charmant ist.
