Le nozze in villa (»Die Hochzeit in der Villa«) erzählt die Geschichte von Sabina und dem jungen Claudio. Sie sind verliebt, aber diese Verbindung läuft gegen den Willen ihres Vaters, der möchte, dass sie den Schulmeister Trifoglio heiratet. Missverständnisse und Spannungen zwischen städtischer Emanzipation und provinzieller Engstirnigkeit werden aufgelöst, und die Romanze triumphiert schließlich dank der Verbindung von »Anmut, Glaube und Jugend«. Diese frühe und nahezu unbekannte Opera buffa von Donizetti ist voller lyrischer Erfindungsgabe und schöner Arien, die von Rossini beeinflusst sind. Die Wiederaufnahme, die speziell für das Festival von Bergamo 2020 restauriert wurde, bringt den ganzen »sprühenden Geist und Wohlklang« der Oper zum Vorschein (bachtrack.com). Diese frühe, längst vergessene Oper von Donizetti wurde im Rahmen des Festivals 2020, das dem Komponisten gewidmet ist, unter vollen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen (Covid 19) inszeniert. Die Fondazione Donizetti und ihre Wissenschaftler stellten sich der Herausforderung, ein Werk zu inszenieren, für das es kein gedrucktes Originallibretto, keine autographe Partitur und kein Quintett aus dem zweiten Akt – »Aura gentil, che mormori« – gibt. Letzteres wurde Elio und Rocco Tanica in Zusammenarbeit mit Enrico Melozzi in Auftrag gegeben, der eine neue Fassung schuf, die sich nahtlos in den Rest der Partitur einfügte«. (Bachtrack). Die Inszenierung ist zeitgemäß, fantasievoll und spielerisch.
