The Blu-Ray was developed as a high-definition successor to the DVD and offers a significantly increased data rate and storage capacity compared to its predecessor. Blu-Rays can therefore store movies with significantly better resolution and offer enormously high picture quality on corresponding screens. Blu-Ray players are usually backward compatible with DVDs, so that they can also be played.

Das Ballett »Le corsaire« von Adolphe Adam wurde 1856 in Paris uraufgeführt. Dass es erst 2014 seine erste Aufführung in Großbritannien durch das English National Ballet erhielt, spricht Bände. »Le corsaire« ist ein Stück, dessen wunderschöne Musik die schwierige Entstehungs- und Rezeptionsgeschichte verbirgt, die eine der komplexesten ist, die man in der Musikgeschichte finden wird.
Dass wir es hier also mit einer ausgesprochenen Ballettrarität zu tun haben, sieht man dieser Produktion allerdings nicht an. Im Gegenteil: Es wurden keine Kosten und Mühen gescheut. So wurde etwa der Hollywood-Kostümbildner Bob Ringwood beauftragt, die orientalistischen Kostüme für diese wunderbare Neuproduktion zu schneidern. Was die tänzerische Seite betrifft, so griff die Choreografin Anna-Marie Holmes auf die einzige wegweisende frühere Produktion dieses Balletts zurück: Die 1975er Petipa-Sergeyev-Version für das Kirov-Theater.
