»La Campana Sommersa« oder »Die versunkene Glocke« ist nicht nur eine ausgesprochene Opernrarität, die hier zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf DVD und Blu-ray Disc erhältlich wird. Das Stück ist auch Ottorino Respighis bedeutendster Beitrag zum Operngenre. Heute wenig bekannt: Der spätromantische Komponist Respighi, der für seine farbenfrohen sinfonischen Dichtungen weltbekannt wurde, war mit zehn Gattungsbeiträgen einer der erfolgreichsten Opernkomponisten Italiens neben Puccini. Dieser Rang Respighis wird durch vorliegende Produktion in exzellenter Besetzung (u. a. Valentina Farcas, Maria Luigia Borsi) erstmals seit langer Zeit wieder betont.
