Eine Traumkombination: die Gambistin Hille Perl und Dorothee Mields, eine der besten Barock-Sopranistinnen der Welt haben sich mit dem Lautenisten Lee Santana und dem hervorragenden La Folia Barockorchester für ein neues Händel-Album zusammengefunden. Und dieses besticht durch eine gelungene Auswahl interessanter Werke, die in dieser Qualität kaum zu hören sind: Die titelgebende Kantate »Tra le fiamme« HWV 170, welche 1707 von Händel komponiert wurde, verbindet thematisch den Mythos des aus der Asche wieder auferstehenden Phönixes sowie die griechische Erzählung über Ikarus und Dädalus.

Musikalisch besticht sie durch großes Temperament sowie dem beeindruckenden Zusammenspiel von Sopran und virtuoser Viola da Gamba. Wohl aus dem selben Jahr stammt auch die »Cantata spagnuola« HWV 140. Hier versteht es Händel, insbesondere mit der Chitarra spagnuola (spanische Gitarre), dem Werk einen leidenschaftlichen spanischen Anstrich zu verschaffen.

Weitere interessante Werke sind die Kantate »La bianca rosa« HWV 160c, die Sonate in g-Moll HWV 364b, zwei Chaconnes sowie eine Hornpipe für Cembalo solo. Eine beeindruckende Einspielung voller Dynamik, Virtuosität und kompositorischer Vielfalt.
