The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Als Butterworth 1914 in die Armee eintrat, hatte er gerade den Liedzyklus »Six Songs from ›A Shropshire Lad‹« wie auch die »Rhapsody ›A Shropshire Lad‹« vollendet, die er einen »orchestralen Epilog« zu seinen Vertonungen der Lieder von A. E. Housman bezeichnete. Diese Rhapsodie ist seither als eines der »großartigsten englischen Orchesterwerke« benannt worden, und ihr Komponist galt als eine der ganz großen Hoffnungen englischer Musik, eine Hoffnung, die im August 1916 an der Somme ihr Ende fand.
Einige Manuskripte hatte Butterworth vor seinem Einrücken noch vernichtet, weil er sie ungenügend fand. »Überlebt« hat dies eine »Orchestral Fantasia«, deren Komposition er erst kurz vor dem Krieg begonnen hatte. Ein 3½ Minuten langes Fragment hatte er bereits fertiggestellt. Kriss Russman hat dieses Fragment vollendet, wie er auch die Streichorchesterversion der »Suite for String Quartette« (sic!) schuf.
Insgesamt bietet diese SACD die Wiederentdeckung eines Großen der englischen Musik.
