Gaetano Donizettis komische Oper L'aio nell'imbarazzo oder Ein Hauslehrer in der Klemme! wurde bei ihrer Uraufführung 1824 in Rom mit großer Begeisterung aufgenommen und wurde zu einem der ersten großen Erfolge des Komponisten sowohl in Italien als auch im Ausland. Nach dem Vorbild von Rossinis Opern, aber bereits mit der psychologischen Tiefe von Donizettis reifem Werk, handelt es sich um eine Erzählung, in der die überbehüteten Söhne eines strengen Marquis, abgeschirmt von weiblicher Gesellschaft, ihrem Hauslehrer Don Gregorio anvertraut werden. Natürlich entwickelt sich alles zu einem emotionalen Chaos in bester Opera-Buffa-Tradition, mit seinen universellen Themen der Romantik und Sozialpolitik, die farbenfroh im Jahr 2042 angesiedelt sind.
