Barocke Orgelpracht von Bachs Vorgänger in Leipzig Johann Kuhnau

Der aus Geising im Erzgebirge stammende Johann Kuhnau (1660–1722) war ab 1701 bis zu seinem Tod Thomaskantor in Leipzig und damit unmittelbarer Vorgänger Johann Sebastian Bachs. Vor allem Kuhnaus Clavierwerke sollen jene seines ungleich bekannteren Nachfolgers in nicht unerheblichem Maße beeinflusst haben. Kuhnau spielte eine entscheidende Rolle in der Entwicklung der mitteldeutschen Schule. Sein Stil verband verschiedene Strömungen der damaligen Musik nördlich der Alpen mit typisch italienischen Affekten. Der Organist (und Dirigent) Stefano Molardi wurde im letzten Jahr für seine herausragende Neueinspielung sämtlicher Orgelwerke Bachs (bisher erschienen: Vol. 1–3, Brilliant Classics 94850, 94792, 94981) von der Presse einhellig gelobt. Mit seiner Aufnahme weiter Teile des Orgelwerks Kuhnaus, darunter die sechs »Biblischen Sonaten« und die sieben Sonaten der »Frischen Clavier Früchte«, schließt Molardi eine wichtige diskografische Lücke in der vorbachschen Orgelmusik.

Die Aufnahmen entstanden im Mai 2014 an der Silbermann-Orgel im Freiberger Dom und im August 2014 an der Silbermann-Orgel der Marienkirche in Rötha. Das Booklet enthält Informationen zu Leben und Werk Kuhnaus, zur Orgel-Disposition sowie eine Künstlerbiografie.
