Caroline Shaw ist eine in New York lebende Sängerin, Geigerin, Komponistin und Produzentin die in Solo- und Gemeinschaftsprojekten auftritt. 2013 erhielt sie als jüngste Empfängerin den Pulitzer-Preises für die Partita for 8 Voices. Für ihr Debütalbum als Solo-Sängerin Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part tat sich Shaw mit den Musikern von So Percussion zusammen, die sie seit ihren Studentenzeiten kennt. Gemeinsam entwickelten sie im Studio Songs, deren Texte von ihren eigenen weitreichenden Interessen inspiriert waren: James Joyce, das Sacred Harp Gesangsbuch, ein Gedicht von Anne Carson, das biblische Buch Ruth, der amerikanische Roots-Song "I'll Fly Away" und die Pop-Perfektion von ABBA.
