Wie es sich für einen ambitionierten Musiker gehörte, ließ sich auch Carlo Lenzi in Neapel ausbilden. Als Kapellmeister in Bergamo avancierte er bald zu den angesehensten Komponisten seiner Zeit. Unter seinen rund 400 Kirchenkompositionen stechen die anspruchsvollen Lamentationen zum Karfreitag heraus. Als Kontrast erklingen auf dieser CD Kirchensonaten von Mozart, der wie Lenzi einen großen Einfluss auf die italienische Musik ausübte.
