Der offenbar eigenwillige Charakter von Giovanni Picchi (ca. 1571-1643) spiegelt sich auch in seinen reizvollen neunzehn Canzonen wider, die er 1625 in Venedig veröffentlichte. Deren genaue Besetzungsangaben geben einen Eindruck vom typisch venezianischen Klangbild zur Zeit Monteverdis. Das Concerto Scirocco präsentiert hier die erste Gesamteinspielung dieser farbigen und affektgeladenen Werke.
