Diese spektakuläre Inszenierung, die 90 Jahre nach der Einweihung der Kathedrale aufgeführt wurde, wurde von Plamen Kartaloff, dem Direktor der Oper Sofia, konzipiert und dem 100. Geburtstag des berühmten bulgarischen Basses Boris Christoff und dem 85. Geburtstag von Nicolai Ghiaurov gewidmet.
Beide Künstler waren für ihre Interpretationen der Rolle des Boris weltberühmt. In dieser Produktion wird die Rolle von dem großen bulgarischen Bass Martin Tsonev gesungen.
