In den frühen 1670er Jahren, kurz nachdem sich die venezianische Oper in Neapel etabliert hatte, begannen eine Reihe komischer Figuren in weltlichen, aber auch geistlichen Opern aufzutreten. Zu diesen Standardfiguren gehörten der »Neapolitaner«, der »Kalabrese« und der »Junge«, und alle drei sowie ein vierter, der »Spanier«, erscheinen in einem komischen Intermezzo, das in die Oper Il disperato innocente von 1673 des wenig bekannten Francesco Antonio Boero eingefügt wurde.
Dies ist das älteste erhaltene komische Intermezzo aus Neapolitaner Zeit und scheint, ebenso wie der Prolog, von anderen Autoren geschrieben worden zu sein. Diese Aufnahme zeigt eine historisch fundierte Aufführung von Antonio Florio mit Pino De Vittorio, die die Tradition des Intermezzos in Handlungen des 17. Jahrhunderts erforscht.
