Mit »Mr. Händel im Pub« lotet das Ensemble I Zefirelli die Grauzone zwischen sogenannter ernster Musik und Unterhaltungsmusik aus und stellt in bester Londoner Tradition Barock- und Folk-Musik nebeneinander.

Georg Friedrich Händel steht hier mit seiner Sonata à Flauto e Cembalo (HWV 367a) und der volkstümlichen Hornpipe (HWV 461) für diesen typisch englischen Spagat zwischen Kunst und Volkstümlichkeit. Auch Henry Purcells seriöse Sonata VIII à 3 wird kontrastiert von einer folkloristisch-fröhlichen Hornpipe aus seiner Bühnenmusik zum Schauspiel »The Old Bachlor« von William Congreve.

Dazu gesellen sich Sets von volkstümlichen Tänzen aus einem Sammelband namens »The Dancing Master«, sowie Scot Tunes nach William McGibbon und Francesco Barsanti. Einer der Höhepunkte der CD ist allerdings I Zefirellis virtuose Interpretation von Arcangelo Corellis unsterblicher ‹La Folia».
