The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. Die Oper »Haddon Hall«, die in dem historischen Anwesen gleichen Namens in der englischen Grafschaft Derbyshire spielt, dramatisiert eine Legende aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, der zufolge die Erbin Dorothy Vernon mit ihrem Mann John Manners durchgebrannt sein sollte, und siedelt die Geschichte im 17. Jahrhundert an. Premiere war am 24. September 1892 im Savoy-Theater. Nach einem für dieses Haus bescheidenen Erfolg von nur 204 Vorstellungen wurde das Stück abgesetzt.
Als die Partnerschaft zwischen Gilbert und Sullivan nach der Inszenierung von »The Gondoliers« 1889 zerbrach, versuchte der Impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte einen neuen Librettisten für den Komponisten Sullivan zu finden, der Bedarf an neuen Komischen Opern am Savoy war groß. Sidney Grundy hatte mit D’Oyly Cartes Freund Edward Solomon 1982 »The Vicar of Bray« geschrieben und außerdem zahlreiche englische Adaptionen französischer Werke verfasst. »Haddon Hall« sollte jedoch Sullivans einzige Zusammenarbeit mit Grundy bleiben.
