Durch diese ergreifenden Wiegenlieder kann der Hörer tief in das kollektive Gedächtnis des armenischen Volkes eintauchen. Mit ihrer schwebenden, höchst ausdrucksvollen Stimme gibt die im Libanon geborene kanadisch-armenisch-amerikanische Sopranistin Isabel Bayrakdarian das weltumspannende Gebet einer Mutter – Schlafe, mein kleiner Liebling – in zahlreichen Versionen eindringlich wieder. Menschen armenischer Herkunft kennen diese Lieder seit jeher. Die Verbindung zwischen der wunderbaren Opernstimme und den bescheidenen Bauernliedern ist ganz ungewöhnlich. Die Lieder, u. a. von Komitas und Barsegh Kanachyan, handeln von der besonderen Erfahrung des armenischen Volkes, aber wenn man die klangvolle Musik hört und die Texte liest (englische Übersetzungen im Booklet, erkennt man ihre Universalität.
