Wilhelm Backhaus hat nur wenige Mozart-Sonaten eingespielt. Für das hier erstmals veröffentlichte Rezital bei der BBC 1961 wählte er KV 330 und KV 332, die schon immer zu den bei Pianisten besonders beliebten Sonaten zählten. Bereits ein Jahr zuvor hatte er, ebenfalls bei der BBC, seine Reputation als herausragender Beethoven-Interpret unterstrichen.
