Ein Fest für Liebhaber der Barockoper in Weltersteinspielung!
Pier Francesco Cavalli war Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts der erfolgreichste Operkomponist überhaupt. Mit seinem Librettisten Giovanni Faustini produzierte er einen „Opern-Hit“ nach dem anderen, was durchaus nicht despektierlich gemeint ist, sondern die Sachlage sehr wohl trifft, denn für jede Saison entstand eine neue Oper. Die erste Oper des Dreamteams Cavalli-Faustini war La virtú de’strali d’Amore (Die Macht der Liebespfeile).
Zwischen der Uraufführung von Cavallis Oper La virtú de’strali d’Amore, die 1642 in Venedig stattfand und der Aufzeichnung der vorliegenden „Wiederaufnahme“, die ebenfalls in der Lagunenstadt über die Bühne ging, lagen mehr als 350 Jahre Dornröschenschlaf. Fast noch erfreulicher als der Umstand, dass dieses wunderbare Beispiel der Barockoper nun endlich wieder zu sehen ist, ist die Tatsache, dass sich mit Fabio Biondi ein echter Spezialist dieser musikalischen Epoche des tragik-komischen Werkes des Monteverdi-Erben Cavalli angenommen hat. Biondi gründete im Jahr 1990 das für seine Interpretationen der italienischen Barockmusik mittlerweile international anerkannte Ensemble Europa Galante.
