Inspiriert vom Cartoon Charakter Lucky Luke und der Tradition des „Spaghetti Western“ verwandelt der Startenor die Bühne des Baden-Baden
Festspielhaus in ein Filmstudio in Westernmanier. Villazons Produktion wird von dem Balthasar-Neumann-Chor und dem Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble begleitet, unter der musikalische Leitung des jungen, aufsteigenden Dirigenten Pablo Heras-Casado.
Gemeinsam mit Rolando Villazon sind außerdem die Opernstars Miah Persson, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, Regula Mühlemann und Roman Trekel auf der Bühne zu erleben.
Es ist eine der außergewöhnlichsten, visuellen Produktionen und gehört zweifelsohne zu den denkwürdigsten Opern Events 2012 in Europa.
Neben der Oper bietet die DVD weiteres eindrucksvolles Bonusmaterial wie das „Behind the scenes ‘Rolando Villazón's 'L´elisir d´amore' in the Wild West“ Kapitel, gefilmt von Friedemann Hottenbacher.
