Viele halten Julian Bream für den größten Gitarristen klassischer Musik im 20.Jahrhundert. Darüber hinaus erfand er auch still die Renaisscancelaute von neuem und führte sie einem frischen und aufgeschlossenen Publikum zu. Benjamin Britten schrieb sein »Nocturnal« op. 70 für Julian Bream. Dieses Meisterwerk zählt weithin zu den wichtigen Säulen des modernen Gitarrenrepertoires und bildet einen passenden Rahmen für Julians Geschichte. Der Projektleiter Paul Balmer lud Bream zu einem Besuch in Aldeburgh ein, um dort das Originalmanuskript in Brittens Haus einzusehen. Das führte sogar dazu, dass der Gitarrist seinen Ruhestand unterbrach und in der wunderbaren Akustik der Snape Maltings alle Sätze von Brittens Nocturnal und De Fallas Homenaje aufführte.
