Rutters "Mass of the Children" entstand aus dem Wunsch heraus, ein Werk zu komponieren, das Kinder und Erwachsene zusammenbringt, so wie es die Aufführungen von Brittens War Requiem für ihn getan hatten, als er noch Schulchorsänger war. Das fünfsätzige Werk wurde schnell von Chören auf der ganzen Welt aufgenommen. Auf dem Album sind auch mehrere bisher unveröffentlichte Hymnen und Motetten zu hören.
