Die Uraufführung von Rossinis berühmtester opera buffa Il barbiere di Siviglia 1816 war ein Fiasko. Nach nur wenigen weiteren Aufführungen stellte sich jedoch der gewünschte Erfolg der Oper ein, was das Werk zu einer der meist aufgeführten Opern der Welt machte. Die vorliegende Aufnahme dokumentiert eine Aufführung aus dem Teatro Regio in Parma von 2011 unter der Leitung des jungen Nachwuchsdirigenten Andrea Battistoni. Im Januar 2011 wurde der erst 24-jährige zum Ersten Gastdirigenten am Teatro Regio in Parma berufen. Die durchdachte Personenführung ist dem Regisseur Stefano Vizioli zu verdanken.
Dmitry Korchak als Graf Almaviva und Bruno Praticò als Doktor Bartolo buhlen um Rosina, gesungen von Ketevan Kemoklidze, und wollen um ihre Hand anhalten. Mit Hilfe des Barbiers Figaro (Luca Salsi) wird Doktor Bartolo geschickt hinters Licht geführt und so heiratet nicht er die schöne Rosina, sondern der Graf.
