»Turandot« wurde nach Puccinis Tod 1926 an der Mailänder Scala uraufgeführt. Da Puccini das Werk vor seinem Tod noch nicht fertig geschrieben hatte, beauftragte sein Verleger den Komponisten Franco Alfano, die Oper fertigzustellen.
»Turandot« enthält eine der anspruchsvollsten Sopranpartien der italienischen Oper und hier ist die gefeierte italienische Sopranistin Giovanna Casolla zu hören. Der Dirigent Alexander Rahbari hat zuvor Puccinis »Manon Lescaut« auf Naxos aufgenommen.
