FonoForum 11/08: Die Aufführung mit dem legendären Porgy des William Warfield, der blutjungen Leontyne Price als Bess (vermutlich ihr erstes Tondokument!) sowie mit Cab Calloway - der als Sportin' Life sich selbst spielt, war er doch Gershwins Vorbild für diese Figur - reißt durch ihren Elan vital noch immer unmittelbar mit. Die monaurale Wiedergabe ist dabei kein echter Nachteil. Einzig das unter Alexander Smallens schmissig spielende RIAS-Unterhaltungsorchester klingt in den Streichern etwas dünn.
