Der Komponist als Interpret – Tribut an Ernö Dohnányi
Ernst von Dohnányi, 1877 im damals noch zum Königreich Ungarn gehörigen Preßburg geboren, erntete früh Erfolge sowohl als Komponist wie als Klavierspieler: 1896 gewann er den Preis des ungarischen Milleniums für seine Sinfonie, schon zwei Jahre zuvor hatte er mit Beethovens viertem Klavierkonzert in London Furore gemacht. Auch als Lehrer war Dohnányi bedeutend: Annie Fischer, Georg Solti und Géza Anda zählten zu seinen Schülern.
Der Zweite Weltkrieg traf Dohnányi schwer: Er verlor seine beiden Söhne, einer starb im Krieg, der andere wurde als Mitverschwörer des 20. Juli hingerichtet. Das hinderte die neuen kommunistischen Machthaber Ungarns allerdings nicht, ihn der Mitläuferschaft mit den Nazis zu bezichtigen; Dohnányi emigrierte in die USA, wo er 1960 durch den Tod mitten aus einem aktiven Leben gerissen wurde.
