In spannenden Kontrasten stellt diese audite-Einspielung Schlagzeugklänge aus Europa und Fernost einander gegenüber. Bedeutende japanische Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts stellen die Marimba in den Mittelpunkt ihrer Kompositionen und beziehen starke außermusikalische Eindrücke ein. Keiko Abe wurde zu Dream of the Cherry Blossoms durch die in Japan jedes Jahr gefeierte Kirschblüte inspiriert und übernimmt Elemente aus einem traditionellen Volkslied. In Conversation erzeugt Akira Miyoshi mit der Marimba die Atmosphäre eines persönlichen Gesprächs, während er in Torse III die Möglichkeiten dieses Soloinstruments auch abstrakt ergründet. Yasuo Sueyoshi nimmt in Mirage pour Marimba Bezug auf traditionelle japanische Theaterkunst, die in Abschnitten wie Gesang, Bewegung und Abgang plastisch greifbar wird. Nicht weniger vielfältig sind die Ansätze der europäischen Zeitgenossen: Nebojsa Jovan Zivkoviæ spürt in Generally Spoken einem allgemeinen Lebensgefühl nach, das sich immer wieder in all-täglichen Situationen zeigt. Klaus Hashagen lässt verschiedene Gruppen von Schlaginstrumenten im Dienste seiner Meditation zur Geltung kommen in Helmut Lachenmanns Interieur I schließlich sind die unterschiedlichen Klangcharaktere und ihre immer wieder neuen Bezüge zueinander selbst Mittel des kompositorischen Prozesses. Cornelia Monske interpretiert die Werke so unterschiedlicher Komponisten aus ganz verschiedenen Kulturkreisen mit gleichermaßen mitreißender Intensität und demonstriert die eindrucks-volle Vielfalt der Schlagzeugkomposition des 20. Jahrhunderts.

In Dream of the Cherry Blossoms, Keiko Abe was inspired by the blossoming of cherry trees celebrated annually in Japan the work borrows elements from a traditional folksong. Akira Miyoshi's Conversation creates the atmosphere of a personal conversation, whereas his Torse III probes into the possibilities of this solo instrument in an abstract way as well. Yasuo Sueyoshi refers to traditional Japanese theatrical art in Mirage pour Marimba this becomes plastically graspable in the sections Song, Movement and Exit. The statements of their European contemporaries are no less multifarious. In Generally Spoken, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic inquires into a general feeling in life that repeatedly turns up in daily situations time and again. Different groups of percussion instruments come into play in Klaus Hashagen's Meditation.
