Trotz der späteren künstlerischen Spannungen ist nicht auszuschließen, dass in der Anfangsphase der Anstellung als königlich preußischer Kammercembalist, einige der Flötensonaten C. P. E. Bachs für Friedrich II. komponiert wurden. Welche Meisterwerke der Preußenkönig ignorierte, wird besonders durch die Interpretation von Barthold Kuijken und Ewald Demeyere deutlich. Diese Musik war ohne Zweifel viel zu schade für den königlich preußischen Ignoranten.

Jedenfalls erleben wir hier eine Sternstunde der kammermusikalischen Finesse. Bei allem wie selbstverständlich dahingleitenden Fluss sorgt vor allen Dingen Kuijkens ausgefeilte, geradezu sprechende Artikulation für eine ungeheure Spannung, die aber nie zum Selbstzweck gerät.
