Der Hörer wird in die Position des Konzertbesuchers versetzt: Orchester und Orgel bauen sich machtvoll vor ihm auf, samtige Streicherteppiche und schillernde Mischklänge umgeben ihn, die Präzision und Kraft des vollen Orchesters sind zum Greifen nahe, die Klangfarben der Orgel sind in jedem Detail präsent. Die klangliche Faszination und Überlegenheit der SACD- Surround Aufnahme wird in dieser Produktion offensichtlich. Die Werke, die große, farbige Orchesterbesetzung und die reiche Akustik des Aufnahmeraumes bieten zusammen mit der Qualität der Interpretation hierfür die optimalen Voraussetzungen. Diese SACD- Veröffentlichung ist auch auf jedem normalen CD- Player abspielbar, dann in der von der CD gewohnten Qualität. Wer jedoch die ganze Dimension des Klanges erleben und in die Tiefe des Kathedralraumes hineinhören möchte, sollte die Aufnahme auf einer Surround-SACD-Anlage abspielen. Die Werke stellen eine Mischung aus klassisch- romantischen und moderneren Klängen dar: Saint-Saens und Strauss als Komponisten der Romantik, Barber als Neoromantiker und Zabel als Vertreter der Moderne. In den Werken von Barber und Zabel wird die Orgel als Soloinstrument im Wechsel mit Orchester verwendet, bei Saint-Saens und Strauss integriert sie sich quasi als Orchesterinstrument in den Ensembleklang allen Kompositionen gemeinsam ist große musikalische Intensität und Farbenreichtum. Christian Schmitt ist Preisträger zahlreicher internationaler Orgelwettbewerbe. Im September 2003 wird ihm als besondere Auszeichnung der Europäische Solistenpreis der Stiftung »Pro Europa« beim Lucerne Festival verliehen. Johannes Wildner, Generalmusikdirektor der Neuen Philharmonie Westfalen und international gefragter Gastdirigent, dirigiert das Rundfunk- Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken, das unter seiner Leitung durch Engagement und Präzision begeistert.

But whoever wants to experience the entire dimension of the sound and listen in to the depths of the cathedral's space should play this recording on a Surround-SACD player. The works represent a mixture of classical, romantic and modern sounds, with Saint-Saens and Strauss as romantic composers, Barber as a neo-romantic and Zabel as a representative of modern music. In the works of Barber and Zabel, the organ is used as a solo instrument in exchange with the orchestra in the Saint-Saëns and Strauss, it is integrated into the ensemble sound as an orchestral instrument, as it were. All of the compositions have great musical intensity and richness of colour in common. Christian Schmitt has been a prize winner at numerous international organ competitions. As a special honour, he will be awarded the European Soloists' Prize of the foundation »Pro Europa« at the Lucerne Festival in September 2003.
