Brief Encounter ist Previns zweite Oper, die hier als Live-Afnahme der Weltpremiere aus dem Jahre 2009 vorliegt.
Die Oper basiert auf dem Drehbuch von Noël Coward, das auch verfilmt wurde. Previn wird am 06. April 2011 82 Jahre alt.
Die Veröffentlichung von Brief Encounter auf der legendären 20 / 21 Serie der Deutschen Grammophon ist das Geburtstagsgeschenk des Labels an diesen ungewöhnlichen Musiker.
