Biografie
William Melvin Kelley wurde 1937 in New York geboren. Mit vierundzwanzig Jahren veröffentlichte er seinen bis heute gefeierten Debütroman A Different Drummer. Nach mehrjährigen Aufenthalten in Paris und auf Jamaika kehrte er mit seiner Familie 1977 nach New York zurück und unterrichtete am Sarah Lawrence College Kreatives Schreiben. Für seine Romane, Kurzgeschichten, Essays und Filme wurde Kelley vielfach ausgezeichnet. Er starb 2017 in Harlem.
