Biografie
Edward Everett Tanner III (1921-1976), alias Patrick Dennis, war von 1950 bis 1960 einer der meistgelesenen Autoren Amerikas. Fast alle seiner sechzehn Romane waren Bestseller, darunter auch der Kulterfolg »Tante Mame«, Vorbild für ein Theaterstück, ein Musical und einen Hollywoodfilm. Tanner war eine schillernde Figur und eine Berühmtheit in der New Yorker Bohème; er führte ein Doppelleben als verheirateter Mann und hingebungsvoller Vater einerseits, und heimlicher Bisexueller andererseits. Als ihm im Jahr 1970 der finanzielle Ruin drohte, nahm er eine Stelle als Butler an, ein Beruf, den er bis zum Ende seines Lebens ausübte.
