Klappentext
The Dr Dick Mertens is hospitalised after a helicopter crash he finds himself next to a CIA agent in hospital. This leads to a new job for him, but one Mertens realises is not what it seems. When journalist Jeff Chapman hears the story, about a secret American project to turn children into 'super soldiers' for the post Cold-War US army, he is tempted to dismiss it as improbable. But if true, the story would be a major scoop for him, and the more he digs into the story, the more horrifying it becomes. Chapman discovers that the project went disastrously wrong, leading to a tragedy for the young subjects of the experiment. When Jeff involves Maggie and Sam, the wife and daughter of one of the 'guinea pigs', in his research, this comes to the notice of the government agency which ran the secret project and had to close it down suddenly, and Jeff and his helpers find themselves in danger.
Only when Maggie finds a survivor of the project can the truth be revealed in a denouement which punishes the project's leader and gives Jeff the scoop he had hoped for.
This thriller is based on a true story, never told before, in which a US doctor working on a real project similar to the one in the book, claimed that the experiments had gone disastrously wrong, but the tragedy was hushed up by the government.
Inspired by real testimony from a U. S. doctor who claimed a similar experiment ended in tragedy, this fast-paced thriller uncovers a chilling episode of government secrecy-one that was never meant to see the light of day.
